hi i am new to the forum and also to bd's
will it be safe to feed the caterpillars that are eating my cabbages in the garden

Not without knowing what they are specifically. Better to stick with the tried basics of crix, locusts and roaches. It's known that fireflys are toxic and kill in a matter of hours but there's no list of other non-Australian insects giving toxicity so basically don't try it.

There are two different cabbage whites small and large, the caterpillars of the latter are reported to be not toxic but at least unpalatable to birds so I would definitely hesitate to try them on dragons.
