So this is the first forum I have joined, and I have just taken on two bearded dragons. They have come from a home that had too many, they are unrelated and supposedly 9 months old, male and female.
Only had them two days, female is eating however only live food, doesn't seem interested in greens, and the male will only eat live food if I am holding him and hand feeding it too him, however did managed to hand feed a couple to him in his viv. He will only be tempted by waxworms so far, I have tried crickets and locusts; and he won't touch greens either. I am worried as they both seem under weight from what I have compared to other beardies, she weighs 170g and he weighs 260g. Need some help as the male seems hungry, he is always poking his tongue out like he is going to pick food up, is he just fussy?
One other querie is he seems to be scratching underneath the hides, like what a female would do to lay eggs, he is definatley a he though! Any ideas?
They are currently in a viv together but I plan to separate them, basically because I don't want him to pester her while she is so young. Is this ok?

Hi - a few pointers for you. First those weights are OK for 9 month old dragons although the lighter one is a little underweight. Secondly, dragons do not like change and will often stop eating for up to 10 days at times so I wouldn't be worrying yet and the tongue and digging are more likely exploration habits than anything else. At this age they will soon be looking at mating/forming territory so separating them before either mating or fighting occurs is a must otherwise you could be in trouble.
Can you post a photo of your set up and tell us a little about it - temps, type of lighting and heating etc. as we may be able to help fine tune it a little.
