Hi, it sounds like it he could be coming up for a shed. Have you got a uv light now? Uv doesn't penetrate through glass so its not worth using a window sill.
Just a couple of questions, when you say you kept the basking light and heat mat on do you mean all night as well?
They need to temp to drop at night so they can cool down and have a good nights sleep, so everything needs to be turned off.
Be careful using a heat mat as they do not feel temps underneath them and there have been stories of beardies getting nasty burns always make sure heat mats are attached to a seperate thermostat.
The runny poops could be due to a change of food, have you tried any new greens?

Yip he got lamp now.realise now don't get uv through window was just doing what I could.also know now doesn't need heat mat so it gone.no was and still am switching lights off at night.saw pre shed pics online last night and looks like he pre shed.do they balloon themselves up when in pre shed and when should he start shedding?new to all this but reading as much info as I can but all quite daunting.any advice appreciated.

They do baloon themselves up ocasionally to stretch there skin and shred easier every lizard Varys how long it takes to shed can b a few days up to a week or more
