I had to give my male bearded dragon away, he stopped my female from eating or basking and she was very unhappy. A week after he has gone and she is happy as ever, eats normally and moves between spots in the viv where as before she would constantly hide.

I would recommend not housing two together, some people are lucky and it works but if it doesnt the result is very stressful for you and the dragons.

They do seem to have different personalities, our first beardie loved being carried around and would stay on your shoulder, where as Felix never stays still when he is out, he wiggles, whips his tail and wants to run around  :D

I bought 2 beardies together and a few weeks later bought one seperately. The one oused on its own turned very aggressive, so i thought maybe hes lonely.. as soon as i housed all 3 together in a larger vivarium they all get on perfectly.. and even the aggression towards me stooped straigt away. they ave now been housed together for about 5months.

The advice given to me when I bought mine was not to do it, as they cannot guarantee the sex until they had grown a lot, they said 2 males would more than likely fight and 1 will become territorial, with the inevitable outcome :-( so I went fr just 1, after reading from this forum it sounds like I got good advice and made the right decision!

I spent nearly 2 hours asking questions and the store where more than happy to help, and most of there advice seems to tally up with the advice from you guys! I got a free book on bearded dragons and was also given a help leaflet with a phone number should I have any problems!

The store is near Salisbury so probably a fair distance from most of you but I'd be happy to share details if anyone would like to check them out!

Keep calm and carry on!!

Russ

Wow! A shop giving the correct advice! That's really good info thanks, which hopefully will help others in your area.

Perhaps we should start a Sticky about good pet shops - but I'm afraid the list wouldn't be very long!

I'm happy to do that, it seems that the employees have or have had beardies and are willing to help any way they can! I also buy all my dog bits and aquarium bits including fish from them so do trust them!

I can only base my thoughts on this shop on the very limited knowledge I have so far, but they do seem to be accurate and seem to care about the animals as apposed to being sales persons.

Thanks

Russ

I have seen the most gorgeous baby beardie and i really want him/her...but as i cannot afford another viv for about a month could i possibly put the baby in with either lizzy , female, or spike , male, just until we get another viv or do you not reccomend this?

http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/105601847/bearded-dragon-babies-for-sale.html

Thats the baby i want, would it stay blue as it gets older?

I wouldn't recommend it even if it is for only a month or so as anything could happen. Will the person selling be willing to hold it for you until you can purchase a new viv? Or have you looked on pre loved for a cheap one?

I saw a classic post on RFUK a while back. New member was cleaning the baby's viv so put it in with an adult. Came back after cleaning and couldn't find baby anywhere - asked what we thought had happened to it :!: Got the obvious answer from everyone. Adult got hungry and ate it.

The lesson here is 'Don't mix sizes even for a short while'.
