today i came home to find SLH laying in the hot end of the viv with his eyes half open, so i got him out to give him a bath and he just sat there, he hasnt eaten hardly any crickets today, only some mealworms, and normally his appetite is massive, i have noticed him being sluggish and his belly is also quite bloated and firm, he hasnt been to the toilet today though and he was fine yesterday??? he has been digging and also sometimes breathes heavily for a minute, like his stomach doesnt move then it goes right in and out?? any help would be appreciated,

ps at the moment he is sat under the basking lamp and the temps are 26 degrees and 35 degrees.

Hi, first of all why are you bathing him? They don't need bathing unless they are dirty.Beardies are desert creatures who live in dry conditions, they don't need a bath.

A loss of appetite can indicate a possible shed - some beardies go off their food and become grumpy just before/during a shed. A bloated tummy may be because he hasn't had a poop. Have you had a poop check done yet at the vets? It is important to check for parasites as these are easily caught from livefood. I would also slightly raise the basking temp, 35C is ok but don't let it get any cooler than this I would personally aim for 37C - 40C.

See how your beardie is tomorrow, I'm sure he will be fine but if he continues and you are concerned then a check up with a reptile vet is always the best thing to do.

We had been bathing him as the vet said to do it 3 times a day when he was ill because he was dehydrated, and now he's better he said to bath twice a week to make sure he gets enough water as we've never seen him drink from his water bowl, this morning we woke up to find him sat under his basking spot quite hapilly and he ate about 8 crickets so I'm hoping he's better today, going to keep an eye on him and see what he's like when I get home,

Glad he is feeling better. I would stop the baths now - you will probably never see him drink. They come from a very dry desert and do not need much moisture, and will get what they need from their food. As long as he is eating he won't get dehydrated. They cannot cope with much humidity, so bathing could cause more harm than good, and he could end up with a lung infection.

ok well il give the baths a miss then, he has just eaten more crickets and when we put him on the floor he wanted to run around and have a nose so we just let him get on with it, his belly is still bloated and he seems quite plump but he still hasnt been to the toilet so it sounds horrible but i hope he goes soon! will keep you updated!

And yes,we had his poo checked about 3 weeks ago and all is fine thank goodness

My beardie is 10 months old and I have never seen him drink water. There is a good thread (in 'frequently asked questions') called 'your dragon,it's habitat and water' which explains why you will probably never see your beardie drink.

Good luck - I'm sure he will poop soon

It doesn't smell as bad as when he had paracites and I don't have a sense of smell for most of the time so it's okay!
