so the story started with us being sold a 5 month old baby beardie from a garden centre near us, we were told he was a him and thats what we believed, after a few months of normal behaviour, SLH started acting really strange, gone off food altogether, digging a lot, wanting to lay down in a dark spot etc, so we took him to the vets, he had a poo check done and that was ok so we thought nothing of it, then yesterday we decided to take him back to the vets because he still would only eat worms and was not passing properly, we had some blood taken and sent off and were awaiting the results, in the vets he started digging around in the box loads, we couldnt figure out why so got him home and put him back in the viv. i arrived home today to find HER sat upright on her basking log quite hapilly and 14 white eggs scattered around the viv, all is back to normal, shes really skinny now though, but the good news is that she is eating normally again, her stress marks have also disappeared from under her belly too which is good! what a surprise!

Blimey what a shock
I thought Bug was holding on to a load of eggs but her digging was just so she could settle down and sleep ... bring on brumination *yawn*

She can have as many eggs as she likes but they will always be infertile. No way am i breeding her with so many unwanted beardies in this country already. Totally irresponsible.

I've heard a pinkie (baby mouse) is a good 'one off' dish for a beardie who just laid to help restore calcium lost through egg laying. Dont quote me on that but might be worth researching some more to help pep her up :)

Pinkies can be really fatty for beardies in all honesty :? . Glad santas little helper is back to normal now  I would be in shock if that happened to mine!

Yes, but as a "one off" they're not a bad idea as you will need to feed her up over the next few days to get her condition back.

At least Santa's Little Helper could be a female name!

I love reading these posts - backs up what we always say to people who think it's easy to sex beardies!

indeed it was a shock, santas little helper could be a girls name but we thought it was more of a boys name so we've changed it to beaudesire, beau for short, its easier than santas little helper, shes doing ok, had loads to eat this morning and this afternoon, now shes basking again, we got her out for a bit earlier and she had a wonder then found a pile of clothes to crawl under so we put her back in the warm, hopefully things are back to normal anyway!
