Day-old Leatherbacks

These little guys hatched in the early hours of yesterday morning, so this is their first day out of the incubator - I think they're still getting used to it all as they look a bit shell shocked!

Andy,

How/why are you using the egg crates, surely they'd be ideal for crix to hide in?

It was an idea I had suggested to me as alternative basking sites - so far it seems to be working well. Each tub has 1/4 of a crate (I'll try to take some photos later on).

The crickets don't tend to hide to much (not on these as they're not yet eating, but on some 4-week olds), and the beardies will occasionally go under the crates after them. I've been checking under them every evening and there aren't generally any crickets left hiding. I quite like the idea of using them for smaller beardies, as it gives them something to grip onto, and each one can have its own "perch" rather than them all piling on top of one another on a rock.

Larger dragons (8 weeks and up) are too strong and just kick the egg crate all over the place, but for dragons up to around 6 weeks it seems promising!

Looks as if it could work quite well. I'll give it a go next season myself and see how it works out.
