We've had George a little over a year. He was a year old rehome when we got him from Scales and Tails in Leicester. He'd had an abscess (we believe this is why his previous owners gave him to the shop). Anyway, the abscess on the side of his mouth was treated and checked before we could take him home. The vet said he'd always have a lump and for us to keep an eye on it. We took him for regular check ups, he was fine and healthy, eating and doing all the usual things beardies do.

Last month we noticed the lump seemed to be getting bigger and as we had a 6 monthly check-up booked we let the vet have a look. It appeared the abscess had become inflamed and possibly infected so George was booked in for surgery to have it removed. On Friday 26th June he had the abscess removed, the vet had to get right in to his jaw bone to scrape out bits. George stayed at the vets for 5 nights and we brought him home last week, with anti-biotics and pain killers. Giving him the first injection was nerve racking, the second was much easier.

He started eating straight away, but seemed a bit 'grumpy' He even went black beardie and full beard/frills face on me the 2nd day he was home. He still seems a bit nervous but is slowly settling back in. He's been eating, but not running around with his usual vigour, but still loves his nightly snuggles with mum and dad, wrapped in his blanket. Hopefully he'll be back to his old self soon. We're taking him back for his follow up appointment this Thursday!

The 5 days without him were the longest days we've ever experienced, we missed him so much. Seeing his viv all dark with no cheeky face looking back at us broke our hearts. We were so glad to get him home. Anyway, hope I haven't rambled, just thought I'd share our story from the last few weeks.

We take him for check ups every 6 months. He's going back to the vets tomorrow for a follow up appointment from his operation, so we should know how he's doing then. He seems okay, other than being a bit grumpy. He wasn't happy having his injection last night, but soon forgot the pain when I gave him a few wax worms as a reward!

We took George back to the vets last night for a post op check up. They'd cultured the abscess and had grown 3 different types of bacteria, so we've got another months worth of antibiotics to give him. The vet also squeezed out some puss and gunk from the wound and advised us to do that every couple of days and eventually the antibiotics should clear that up. He seemed pretty pleased with his progress and George seemed much happier last night after having his (zit) squeezed.

Though we're unlikely to be popular every 3rd day for the next month when we stick the needle in his arm.
