Hi everyone, sorry not posted on here for a while, been busy with work, children, pets and day-to-day life. Just after some advice really, this morning I went out to get Roxy, formally Wrex (we only discovered last week shes a girl, not a boy lol) some more food. Once there at my reptile shop, I saw a very skinny female with her eyes closed. For a brief second I thought she was dead until the shop owner informed me she wasnt and was abandoned on the front door step out of hours and that if I wanted her free to good home I could have her. So a sucker for a sob story she came home with me. Shes eatting ok, but I am just wondering if there is a diet I could use to encourage her to gain weight because as I say she is very skinny.

Any suggestions are very welcomed,

Cheers

First question - are you keeping her in a separate viv? If not you do need to as you don't know what she's been exposed to in the way of disease, plus of course the problems of bullying at a later stage.
Assume she's had little if any UV so calcium on every live feed for a couple of months and as well as a mix of crix and probably morio worms I'd give her a pinky mouse weekly. Weigh her now and then keep a check on her weight weekly. A photo and a note of her weight/length would help here.

Not too awesome on computers, the image is too large to upload but shes 8 inches without tail and 17 inches with tail, the guy in the shop said she was laying eggs up to the day before I took her, she was laying 1 every 2 days and has since stopped and she weighs 173 gramms if thats any indication for you guys.

Thanks again

Oh and yes she is being kept separate from the others.

She's really underweight and needs to get into much better condition - I'd expect a weight in the mid 300 gms mark normally. Up the pinkie mice to 2 a week for now with whatever she'll eat in the way of roaches or crix offered daily and powdered with calcium every second day. Try and get some veg in her as well if possible but don't stress her to much if she won't take any. You should also look out for more eggs in around 3 weeks as you don't know how many clutches she's already laid. Hope this helps and keep us informed on her progress.

Rick

Good news everyone, Kiwi is now 232 gram's and still gaining weight gradually. She's on a high protein diet (pinkies and grubs twice a week) and loving her salad and veggies (offered everyday) and still eats her usual locust and worms. It's looking like a full recovery for our dear Kiwi thanks to your helpful and kind words.

Once again thank you very much,

:D

You can't call an Aussie "Kiwi" it's as bad as calling a Scot "Pommie"

Lol, yes granted her name wasn't the best of choices, but it was my wife that named her and she gets the final say in this house (she wears the pants, lol). Anyway I have some more good news, she's weighing in at 251 grams today, so slowly getting there and she has a bit more strength now, she couldn't climb her cork wall last week and today was the first time she's climbed it!! Also what are your opinions on Repti-Boost?? I put it in water twice a week for her and she seems to be reacting positively to it, but as always I'd like to consult with the experts first but forgot to mention it.

Thank you as always

Never had to use it but I'd probably only use it 'til she's looking good again then just see that she has a good balanced diet. Do watch her as the weight gain could also be due to another clutch of eggs (usually around 3 weeks after the previous clutch).
