Advice on bringing home a baby beardie

Remember, your new baby will be coming from a vivarium where he has had to compete for food with all his brothers and sisters.  Suddenly he will be in a new vivarium, all on his own, and with all the food provided for him!
In the wild bearded dragons are solitary animals, and he is at the right age to start out on his own, but it will be a new experience for him.  Although he may eat well at the first feedtime (and may well eat too well without having to compete for the food), it is quite normal for baby beardies to go off their food for a couple of days after you get them to their new home.  This is quite normal, and not something to be worried about unless it goes on too lone.

Baby beardies grow very fast - as their skin does not grow, they shed.  Sometimes when they are about to shed they go a dark colour, and become very quiet, and may not be too interested in food.  Again, not something to be worried about unless it lasts more than a couple of days.

Hydration

Baby bearded dragons cannot recognise water when it is standing still, so although you may have a SHALLOW dish of water in the vivarium, they may not drink from it, and may become dehydrated.  You should spray a little bottled water onto their veg so they take some water when they eat.  Alternatively you can spray a little water onto a plastic plant - as the water runs down they may lick at it.  Not too much water though, otherwise you will increase the humidity in the vivaruim too much.  If you are very worried that your baby may be dehydrated, drop some water on its nose using a pipette - he will lick at this if he is thirsty.
